Authorised Tariff Meters Distributors in India

Sun-AP Ecopower is an authorised distributor of Non-Tariff Meters by Secure Meters in India. Secure Meters is one of India’s most trusted names in energy metering, and their non-tariff meter range is widely used across industrial, commercial, and solar installations for internal energy monitoring, submetering, and load management applications. We supply the complete range across Bangalore and pan-India with valid warranty, factory calibration, and full technical support.

What is a Tariff Meter?

A Tariff Meter is a revenue-grade energy meter used to measure and record the electrical energy consumed or generated at a metering point for the purpose of billing and tariff computation. Unlike a basic energy meter, a tariff meter is designed to meet specific accuracy standards mandated by electricity regulations making it legally valid for commercial energy transactions between a utility and a consumer.

Tariff meters are used at the point where electricity enters a premises whether at the LT service connection of a home or commercial building, or at the HT metering point of a large industrial consumer or power plant. They record active energy (kWh), reactive energy (kVARh), maximum demand (MD), and in advanced variants, Time-of-Use (TOU) data across multiple tariff slots.

In India, tariff meters must comply with IS 14697 and IEC 62053 standards and carry BIS certification for legal use in billing applications.

  • LT Tariff Meters – Single Phase and Three Phase Used at residential, small commercial, and LT industrial connections. Measure active energy and demand for standard billing. Available in direct-connected and CT-operated variants.
  • Bi-Directional Tariff Meters Used at solar and co-generation installations to measure both import (grid to consumer) and export (consumer to grid) energy. The Secure Sprint-350 is a three-phase bi-directional net metering meter designed specifically for this application. Essential for grid-connected solar systems where surplus generation is fed back to the DISCOM.

  • ABT Meters (Availability Based Tariff) Used at the inter-state and intra-state grid interchange points. ABT metering was introduced in India to improve grid frequency discipline and revenue realisation for utilities. Secure Meters designed the first ABT meter in India and continues to supply the majority of grid-level ABT meters in the country.

Key Features of Tariff Meters

  • Revenue-grade accuracy – Class 0.5, Class 0.2S options as per IEC 62053
  • Compliant with IS 14697, IS 15959 DLMS, and BIS certification for legal metering
  • Measures active energy (kWh), reactive energy (kVARh), apparent energy (kVAh), and maximum demand
  • Time-of-Use (TOU) recording across multiple tariff slots
  • Four-quadrant measurement for import and export energy (bi-directional models)
  • Tamper detection and event logging for revenue protection
  • Optical port and RS-485 Modbus communication for data reading and AMR integration
  • CT/PT operated variants for HT metering points
  • Load survey and data logging with time-stamped records
  • Robust enclosure with translucent tamper-evident cover

Where Are Tariff Meters Used?

Tariff meters are the primary metering instrument at every point where energy is bought or sold. Common applications include:

  • Residential and commercial LT service connections
  • Industrial HT metering points
  • Distribution transformer secondary metering
  • Grid-connected solar and rooftop solar net metering (DISCOM approved)
  • Co-generation and captive power plant export metering
  • Inter-utility and inter-state energy exchange points (ABT metering)
  • Housing complexes and commercial complexes with individual tenant billing

Why Accuracy and Compliance Matter in Tariff Metering

A tariff meter is not just a monitoring tool it is a legal instrument used to determine billing. Even a small accuracy error at a large industrial or HT connection can translate into significant revenue loss or overbilling over time. This is why tariff meters must be type-tested, calibrated, and certified before installation.

In India, DISCOMs and regulatory bodies specify the meter type, accuracy class, and communication standard for each connection category. Working with an authorised distributor ensures the meter you install meets all regulatory requirements and will be accepted by the utility without rejection or re-metering.

Why Purchase from Sun-AP Ecopower

Sun-AP Ecopower is an authorised distributor for Secure Meters tariff metering range in India. We supply genuine, BIS-certified, warranty-backed meters with complete documentation calibration certificates, type test reports, and compliance datasheets that utilities and DISCOMs require at the time of meter sealing and commissioning.

Our team assists with meter selection based on your connection type, CT/PT ratio, accuracy class requirement, and DISCOM specification. We supply both individual meters and bulk project quantities with fast dispatch across Bangalore and pan-India.

As one of India’s leading solar panel distributors, we also supply bi-directional tariff meters specifically approved for rooftop solar net metering applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a tariff meter and an energy meter?

All tariff meters are energy meters, but not all energy meters are tariff meters. A tariff meter is a revenue-grade, legally certified instrument used for billing purposes. It must meet specific accuracy and compliance standards set by the regulator. A basic energy meter may not carry the required certifications for use in official billing.

What accuracy class is required for HT tariff metering in India?

HT metering points in India typically require Class 0.2S accuracy as per IS 14697 and IEC 62053-24 standards. LT connections generally use Class 1 or Class 0.5 meters depending on the DISCOM specification.

Do I need a bi-directional tariff meter for my rooftop solar system?

Yes. If your rooftop solar system is grid-connected and you are exporting surplus generation back to the grid under net metering, a DISCOM-approved bi-directional tariff meter is mandatory. It measures both your import from the grid and your export to the grid for accurate net billing.

What is an ABT meter?

ABT stands for Availability Based Tariff. ABT meters are used at grid interchange points between utilities and generators to measure energy flow and help maintain grid frequency discipline. They record energy in multiple quadrants and time blocks as required under the Indian electricity grid code.
